The case examines in detail the evolution, viability, sustainability and and other lessons learned from the Long Beach Post, an online community news site launched in 2006. The case offers helpful data and analysis that identify key factors required for success of online community news ventures.

"Our case study shows how local online journalism works in real life. It tracks the launch and execution of a community news web site in Long Beach, California, showing how difficult it is to develop a business model that will both survive and eventually thrive," Klein writes in a blog post also released today.

Professor Klein has received considerable interest in this project, including from the Knight Case Studies initiative at Columbia's School of Journalism.

The case study and accompanying teaching guide are available for download on our website, http://communicationleadership.usc.edu If you'd like printed copies, just shoot me a note.

Many thanks for checking it out.
